Nykøbing i Middelalderen: Nykøbing Sj. kirke blev bygget i Valdemarenes udviklingsrige dage, og da det er en ret anselig kirke, viser det os, at byen på deen tid har været i god fremvækst. Og i slutningen af det århundrede må det efter hine tiders forhold have været en stor by. Den lå jo også på søvejen til den daværende kongeby Roskilde og det ældgamle Lejre.
